Discover Swift Aircraft

Swift Aircraft was formed in 2004, with ambitious plans to help revitalise the British GA industry with a brand-new certified aircraft for training and touring, and by promoting the industry to inspire future generations. It was a chance to create an incredible aircraft and at the same time help to preserve and grow the dwindling GA sector.

The company has been involved in a number of high profile projects including acquiring Europa Aircraft and adopting 21 ex-military Firefly Aircraft to make them airworthy and return them back to the military and the general public. We now offer exclusive services and support for Firefly T67 aircraft in operation today.

We are committed STEM (STEAM) ambassadors, actively working with educational institutions and youth groups to help develop engineers and aviators of the future.

Now based at Scottow Enterprise Park (formerly RAF Coltishall), and in the final prototype build stages with our first aircraft, we are on target to create over 100 aerospace careers over the next two years.

Innovation and technology

We pride ourselves on using the most up to date technologies and techniques to design our aircraft.  Innovative techniques have been used in the the design and manufacturing process and the result is a unique modern design with admirable specifications. A range of  state of the art computer engineering methods have been utilised, for example 3D design, CAD, CFD and FEA.

CFD and FEA use advanced numerical simulation methods for stress analysis, heat transfer, flow analysis, stress analysis and much more. 3D and CAD are used to perfect efficient surface forms, define geometry, generate mesh, define material properties, apply boundary  conditions and apply load prior to computational simulations.

We have also developed out of autoclave techniques for the Carbon and Glass fibre structure, significantly reducing manufacturing costs, whilst not sacrificing on the strength of the final component.  We have designed and built our own oven for these purposes, so the entire operation is completely unique and bespoke.

bRITISH ga

The British aerospace industry is huge and it helps to buoy the British economy. The UK is one of the main players on a World and European stage and employs thousands of people both directly and indirectly. However, at the same time, UK GA is withering, and this will have a detrimental effect on the entire industry.

Growing GA is vital for both the commercial and military aviation sectors, and the industry as a whole must work together to recognise this crucial role.  Thousands of pilots will be required over the coming decades, but with the numbers of flying schools decreasing, and training aircraft aged at double the years of new training pilots, the skills gap won’t be filled by British students. Move over, the high cost of training is further hindered by the fact that the UK adds taxation to training – the only EU country to do so.

It’s not just future pilots who are borne out of the GA industry, GA also plays a crucial role in training future engineers and skilled workers. Without these, the entire UK aviation industry will face decline, taking away a buoyant economic cash cow and condemning the industry to history books.

Indeed, the UK has a fine history, however a heritage is no substitute for an industry.  Britain has made an important contribution and is responsible for many aerospace innovations in both commercial and military markets. And we must not forget that within the last century, the UK also play a big part in the supply of GA aircraft throughout the world.

Swift Aircraft is committed to playing a role in securing the industry for decades to come, and we work closely with other institutions and groups to find ways to achieve this goal. The Swift will define our dedication and commitment to this, and our STEM initiatives pave the way for future generations to take control and take UK aerospace to new heights.

STem Initiatives

Swift Aircraft is a dedicated and committed STEM company and members of the management team are official STEM Ambassadors with STEM Learning UK. The company has links to a number of educational institutions and youth groups, working together to help develop engineers and aviators of the future.

We run STEM (STEAM) activity sessions at our facility at Scottow (formerly RAF Coltishall).

Working with future generations is awe-inspiring, and it’s moments spent with groups of future aviators and engineers soaking in everything GA and the wider industry has to offer, is really what it is all about.
